Grill Not Lighting / No Smoke from Grill / Grill Not Heating UpUpdated a month ago
If you start your GMG grill and notice that the temperature isn’t rising and there is no smoke coming from it, there may be a problem with the igniter or the firebox might need cleaning. Possible causes (you may see a FAL code display on the control board screen when this occurs):
- There could be too much ash in the firebox. ALWAYS make sure the grill is cool and unplugged before removing any internal parts. Remove the parts and clean out the firebox of all ash and/or pellets.
- Pellets may have overfilled the firebox. Never turn the grill off and on repeatedly, as this will fill the firebox with pellets. The igniter cannot light the pellets unless air can flow freely through the combustion chamber.
- The combustion fan is not operating correctly. Check to make sure the fan blades turn freely and that it runs on Cycle 2 of the 0-1- 2-3 sequence. If the fan blades do not spin, gently tap on the blades to release any debris. Replace if necessary.
- The auger is not feeding pellets into the firebox. Make sure your grill is off and cooled off. Remove the internal parts, make sure the firebox is cleared and turn it back on. Check to see if pellets are feeding through the auger tube during cycle 0. If they’re not you may have a jammed auger.
- If there is no ash buildup, the fans work properly, and fresh pellets are feeding in, your igniter is faulty and the grill will require a replacement igniter.
Replacing the Igniter
12V Grills: To replace the igniter on your GMG Prime, Prime Plus or 2.0. Remove the protective grate under the hopper and disconnect the blue & yellow wires going to the igniter. The igniter wire may also be twist or cable tied which will need to be undone. Once you have disconnected the igniter, simply remove it from the burner pot then reverse the process to install the replacement
