Grill No Longer Feeding Pellets / Loss of TemperatureUpdated a month ago

If the auger motor stops functioning during cooking, the firebox will be deprived of fuel, causing the temperature to drop. This situation may occur if the auger is jammed or if there is a fault with the auger motor. Always remember to unplug your grill before inspecting any parts.

  1. Check the Pellets: If your pellets appear crumbled, do not hold their shape, or have been exposed to excessive moisture, the auger may be jammed and will need to be cleared. Remove all pellets from the hopper and the firebox, then try running the grill from cycle 0. If you hear the motor attempting to rotate but it remains stuck, there may be a jam in the auger tube that requires disassembly and cleaning.
  1. Examine the Motor/Gearbox: If the auger motor struggles to rotate and feed pellets into the firebox, it may be faulty and need replacing. A common symptom is that the motor feeds pellets during startup but then fails to continue after the initial cycle, resulting in a loss of temperature. If this happens, the motor may be defective and will need to be replaced. You can purchase auger motors from the Hark BBQ website or by contacting [email protected]. You can also check the collar between the auger assembly and the auger, as this may be jammed, which will stop the motor from rotating. If you cannot free the collar from the auger, please reach out to [email protected] for assistance.
  1. Listen for Sounds: If your grill is making a clicking noise and the auger isn’t functioning, it’s likely that there is a stripped gear in the gearbox. In this case, the auger motor will also need to be replaced. Auger motors can be obtained from the Hark BBQ website or by contacting [email protected].
